Written Assignment, Core topics and Sub topics

imagesDear all, we are going to start preparing for your Written Assignment. To that end, during today’s lesson you will see a presentation that will explain to you the more relevant and important characteristics of this evaluation.

Written assignment SL: Composed of two texts, a Task (250-400 words, excluding bibliography) and a Rationale (150-200 words).

The Task: Students produce a piece of writing that can be a “Diary entry”, ” Interview”, “News report”, “Set of instructions, guideline”, “Written correspondence”, “Blog entry”, among others.

Rationale: Students produce a piece of writing that must include 1.- “The subject investigated”, 2.- “A brief description of each of the sources”, 3.- “The student’s intended aim(s) and 4.- “Explanation of how the student intends to achieve his aim-choice of text types, audience, register, style and so on.

You have to choose one Core Topic: Communication and Media, Global Issues or Social relationships:

Then, you can do your research on the following subtopics as worked in class in these two years:

Communication and Media

  • Discrimination in advertisements.
  • Media censorship
  • The benefits of the mobile phone worldwide
  • Bias in the media

Global Issues

  • Global warming
  • Environmental care
  • Recycling
  • Poverty
  • Deforestation
  • Pollution

Social relationships

  • Third culture kids
  • Cultural identity
  • Prejudice, racism or discrimination (The apartheid)
